Is there a connection with Dreds and crime?

My answer is "NO". However, is seems an alarming number of people getting in trouble have dreds. I was watching the news last night and 4 out of the 6 guys accused of trying to rob a rap star had locs (dreds). It's not just this incident there are many others. Are these people really guilty or are they being profiled because of their look? Is it a coincident that they have Dreds and white t-shirts? Is this why so many celebrities are cutting their hair?
